Working with an online interior designer is still a relatively new concept for many homeowners, and it is completely normal to have questions before you take the first step. Online interior design has transformed how people access professional design expertise, making it more flexible, more accessible and more personal than ever before. Here are some of the most common questions we get asked about our online interior design service, answered honestly and without the jargon.
1) What makes House Designer different?

Award-winning design experts at House Designer
House Designer was founded in 2020 by Samantha-Jane Agbontaen, an interior designer with over 16 years of experience. We are a multi award-winning studio and the first and only online design practice to cover interior design, garden design and exterior design under one roof. Whatever part of your home needs attention, we have a specialist for it.
We are a small but close-knit team. From the very beginning HD has felt like a family, a group of experts who love what we do. When you work with us you are not a ticket in a queue. You are working with real designers who take pride in getting it right.
Unlike other platforms, we are not matchmakers. We do not assign you to a designer. We are your designers. A team with qualifications and industry experience, working with you directly from the first conversation to the final delivery.
We also bring a specific understanding of British homes. From the quirks of Victorian and Edwardian period properties to the spatial challenges of modern new-build apartments, we know how UK homes work and how to make them work better. Every design we produce is built around the way you actually live, not a generic solution applied to your floor plan.
2) How does the process work?
Our interior design process has been built to be straightforward and genuinely stress-free. It works in four stages.
We begin with a detailed online questionnaire and a virtual consultation with your designer. This is where we get to know you, your space, and what you want from it. We ask about your design preferences, how you use the room, your lifestyle, and anything you want to keep or change about the existing space.
From there we move into the design concept phase, developing a concept that includes moodboards, colour palettes and furniture layouts, all tailored specifically to your taste and the dimensions of your room.
Once you have reviewed the concept, we refine and revise based on your feedback. We do not rush this stage because getting the design right before anything is purchased is the whole point.
Finally we deliver a comprehensive design package including detailed floor plans, 3D visualisations and a curated shopping list with links to trusted UK retailers. Everything you need to bring the design to life is included in one clear, usable document. The entire process happens online, which means you can work with us on your own schedule from wherever you are in the UK.
3) What are your packages and what do they include?
Our interior design packages start from £499 per room. Pricing is entirely transparent with no hidden fees or unexpected additions.
Our Classic package starts from £499 per room and includes a video consultation, design boards, a furniture layout plan, two 3D visuals, a curated shopping list and access to our exclusive trade discounts. It is ideal for anyone wanting professional design guidance for a single space.
Our Deluxe package at £750 per room goes further, adding two options per key pieces, samples and swatches and additional revisions. It is our most popular package and works particularly well for clients who want more involvement in the selection process.
Our Ultimate package at £1,500 per room is our most comprehensive offering, designed for renovation projects. It includes a bespoke joinery drawing, a full lighting layout plan, socket and switch positioning, a material and finish schedule and photorealistic 3D renders. If you are working with a contractor, this pack gives them everything they need.
Part of what makes the investment worthwhile is that a well-considered design saves money in the long run. Knowing exactly what to buy, where to buy it and how it will look in your specific room before you spend anything prevents the costly mistakes that come from buying the wrong piece, in the wrong scale, in the wrong finish.
4) Do you offer trade discounts?
Yes. As part of every package you get access to exclusive trade discounts with our supplier network. This means you can purchase furniture, fabrics and materials at trade rather than retail prices, which on a full room can offset a significant proportion of the design fee.
5) What approach do you take to design?
We do not impose a design style on our clients. Rather than steering every project towards a particular aesthetic, we listen carefully to what you want and build the design around your personal taste. Whether you are drawn to a warm layered contemporary look, clean minimalism, classic transitional design or something entirely your own, we work within your vision rather than overriding it. Giving you expert guidance whilst making sure everything is cohesive.
We are experienced across the full range of interior design styles, which means we bring knowledge to whatever direction you choose.
6) How do we know the design will work in our space?

Before you purchase a single item you will see a photorealistic 3D visual of your finished room. The exact furniture at the correct scale, the colours on the walls, the lighting and the finishing details. Exactly how it will look.
Every layout is drawn to scale from your actual room measurements, checked against your specific dimensions, door swing, radiator position and traffic flow. There is no guesswork.
7) Can we be involved in the design decisions?
As much or as little as you want to be. We encourage you to share inspiration, references and feedback throughout the process. Some clients prefer to be closely involved at every stage. Others prefer to share their brief and trust us to develop a design for review. We are flexible and will adapt to however you prefer to work.
8) What do we receive when the design is complete?
Once your design is finalised you receive a comprehensive package that includes detailed floor plans, 3D visualisations of the finished space, a full specification of materials and finishes, and a curated shopping list with direct links to purchase every item from trusted UK retailers.
Post-design support is included for a period after the project is completed. If questions arise as you start implementing, our team is available to help.
9) Do you work outside London?
Yes. While our studio is based in London, our service is entirely online and available to clients throughout the UK. We work with homeowners in cities, suburbs and rural areas across England, Scotland and Wales. No site visits needed and there are no geographic limitations.
10) When is the right time to work with House Designer?
Earlier than most people think. We are most useful at the planning stage, before you have committed to furniture, paint or flooring, because that is when good design saves you the most money and prevents the most costly mistakes.
If you are moving into a new home, renovating or simply ready to finally sort a room that has never felt quite right, now is the right time. You do not need to have a clear vision before you come to us. Helping you find clarity is part of what we do.
We also work with clients who are mid-renovation and have realised they need professional guidance before they make any more decisions. It is never too late to get the design right.
How do we get started?
The easiest first step is to explore our interior design packages to find the option that suits your project and budget. If you would like to talk through your space and what you are hoping to achieve before committing, we offer a free consultation call with a member of our design team.
You can also take our interior design style quiz for a quick, useful starting point that helps clarify the direction you are drawn to before any design conversations begin.
Browse our recent interior design projects to see the range of homes and styles we have worked across, and read what our clients have said on our reviews page before making any decisions.
