This living room was designed for a client who wanted bold colour and character without losing elegance or timelessness. A grey backdrop and traditional fireplace provide the architectural anchor, while jewel-toned furniture, abstract artwork and a curated mix of textures bring the energy and personality the brief called for.

The Design Board

The design board was built around contrast from the outset. A deep charcoal velvet sofa dressed with zigzag patterned cushions and fuchsia scatter pillows adds immediate depth and energy to the grey scheme. A standout magenta armchair introduces a strong jewel tone that lifts the palette without overwhelming it, while a soft vintage-style rug, natural wood finishes and ceramic accents provide the grounding needed to keep the boldness feeling intentional rather than chaotic.

A modern round coffee table, contemporary lighting and carefully chosen accessories complete the board, each contributing to a sense of warmth and personality that runs through the entire scheme.

The Finished Room

Set against soft grey walls, a traditional fireplace with a cream surround and warm wooden mantel serves as the room’s focal point, grounding the contemporary layout with a classic architectural presence.
