Elegant Open-Plan Living Designed for a Chelsea Apartment
This open-plan project in Chelsea was designed for a property developer with a clear commercial objective: maximise the sense of space and natural light to create a turn-key apartment with genuine market appeal. The living, dining and kitchen areas were resolved as a single flowing layout rather than three separate zones, producing a result that feels expansive despite the compact London footprint.
The Design Board
The design board was built around soft curves, neutral tones and layered tactile materials. A bouclé sofa, matte ceramics and linen roman blinds introduce comfort and calm without adding visual weight to a space where lightness was essential. Rich wooden flooring runs throughout, grounding the scheme with warmth, balanced by refined panelled walls and a marble-effect TV unit that brings a contemporary edge without disrupting the overall softness of the palette.
The dining area was designed to be compact without feeling compromised. A rounded pedestal table and bouclé-upholstered chairs sit positioned to make the most of the window outlook, a detail that matters both for liveability and for how the space photographs. In a developer context, the difference between a room that reads as generous and one that reads as tight often comes down to decisions exactly like this one.
