Naturalistic Garden Design: A Family Garden

A Naturalistic Family Garden Designed for Outdoor Living

This project was completed under our Signature Garden Package and shows how a full garden can be planned around the way a family actually lives outside. Distinct zones for cooking, gathering, relaxing and growing are held together by warm materials and layered, naturalistic planting, giving a garden that feels open and personal in equal measure.

The Design

The garden is organised into clearly defined areas, each with its own purpose. A west-facing pergola shelters an outdoor lounge that holds the evening light. A circular fire pit with curved timber seating becomes its own destination after dark. A hanging-chair deck sits quietly among the grasses, and raised beds run along a pebble path for herbs and vegetables. Every zone is separate in use, yet reads as part of one connected scheme.

Materials and Planting

Warm timber, natural stone and pale gravel run throughout, tying the spaces together and standing up to daily use across the seasons. The planting is layered for year-round interest, structural birch and acers for height and form, soft grasses for movement, and seasonal perennials threaded between. The result is a garden that keeps its shape and character through every month of the year, not just in high summer.
