Traditional Brick Home with Contemporary Extension Design

Heritage-style brick home with a modern rear extension, large glazing, solar panels, and a landscaped garden with lush planting and a winding stone path.

A Traditional Brick Home with Contemporary Extension in Surrey

This Surrey project demonstrates how a period home can be extended without losing the qualities that make it worth preserving. A classic brick façade defines the front elevation, while a carefully resolved contemporary addition to the rear introduces the space, light and openness that modern living demands. The two sit together with confidence rather than compromise.

Contemporary Rear Extension with Full-Width Glazing

A full-width glass extension at the rear links the living area directly to the newly landscaped garden, dissolving the boundary between inside and out. Large glazing panels and clean architectural lines bring a modern sensibility to the rear elevation while the original building’s heritage character is left intact at the front. The result is a home that reads differently depending on where you stand, and is better for it.

Sustainable Design

Sustainability was embedded into the project from the outset. Solar panels and energy-efficient materials were specified alongside the architectural decisions, ensuring the home performs as well as it looks. Adding contemporary functionality to a traditional structure is one of the most effective ways to extend a building’s life and reduce its environmental footprint simultaneously.

Landscaped Garden

The garden was designed to complete the transformation rather than simply frame it. A calming green retreat extends the living space outdoors, creating a setting that works for quiet relaxation and entertaining alike, and reinforcing the synergy between the architecture and its natural surroundings.
